When temperatures rise, our animals often suffer in silence: they hardly sweat and regulate their body heat mainly by panting. Here are three simple ways to help them better get through the summer.
1. Offer them a cool surface, not just shade
An animal that seeks out the tiles in summer is sending you a clear signal: it is trying to release heat through contact. A cooling mat placed on the floor, in its bed, or even in the car, offers it this coolness throughout the house, without needing air conditioning.
2. Always have water available, even on walks
Dehydration happens quickly in high heat, especially during outings. A foldable water bottle with an integrated bowl allows you to offer water to your dog at any time, without anything leaking into your bag.
3. Protect sun-sensitive areas
The ears, snout, and area around the eyes are particularly exposed. An adjustable cap with a visor limits direct exposure during outings in hot hours.
The reflex to remember
Prioritize outings early in the morning or late in the day, avoid hot asphalt under their paw pads, and watch for signs of heatstroke (excessive panting, lethargy, very red gums) which require prompt veterinary attention.
